To factory reset a Denon AVR-S570BT, turn it off with the power button, then hold SOUND MODE ▶ and TUNER PRESET CH + on the front panel while you press the power button, and let go when the display starts flashing about once per second. If the on-screen menu works, you can also use SETUP > General > Reset instead.
Both methods put every setting back to how it left the factory. That includes speaker distances and levels, input assignments, and the HDMI settings your TV relies on for sound. Denon suggests trying a simple restart first, because that can clear a glitch without erasing anything.
Before you reset: try these two things
1. Restart the receiver
Denon’s own troubleshooting page says that if the indicators look wrong or the unit won’t respond, restarting it may fix the problem. Press the power button to turn the receiver off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on. If that doesn’t help, unplug the power cord for a minute, plug it back in, and test again.
2. Check whether the menu is locked
If you open the menu and see nothing but Setup Lock, the receiver isn’t broken. Someone turned on Setup Lock, which hides every other setting. To turn it off:
- Press and hold SETUP on the remote for more than 3 seconds.
- Watch the receiver’s display. It shows Setup Lock: ◀ On ▶.
- Use the left or right arrow to select Off.
- Press ENTER. The full menu comes back.
If a restart and unlocking don’t solve your problem, go ahead with a reset.
Write down your settings first
A reset can’t be undone. If your receiver was set up well and you only want to fix one problem, jot down these values before you start. They take a few minutes to record and much longer to rebuild from memory.
| Menu location | What to note |
|---|---|
| Speakers > Manual Setup > Distances | Distance for each speaker |
| Speakers > Manual Setup > Levels | Level for each speaker (in dB) |
| Speakers > Manual Setup > Crossovers | Crossover frequency (the default is 80 Hz) |
| Inputs > Input Assign | Any optical or coaxial jack you moved to a different source |
| Video > HDMI Setup | HDMI Control, ARC, and Power Off Control choices |
| Option menu > Audio Delay | Lip-sync delay, which is saved per input |
Method 1: Reset with the front-panel buttons
This method works even when you can’t see the menu on your TV, so it’s the one to use if the TV picture is missing or the remote won’t respond. You need the buttons on the receiver itself, not the remote.
Warning: the next steps erase all of your settings.
- Press the power button on the front of the receiver to turn it off. The receiver should be in standby, not unplugged.
- Press and hold SOUND MODE ▶ (the right-pointing Sound Mode button).
- While still holding it, also press and hold TUNER PRESET CH +.
- Keep holding both buttons and press the power button.
- Watch the front display. When it starts flashing at about one-second intervals, let go of both buttons.

The flashing display is your sign that the reset took. If the receiver simply turns on normally, the buttons weren’t held at the moment you pressed power. Turn it off and try again, making sure both buttons are already held down before your finger reaches the power button.
Method 2: Reset from the on-screen menu
Use this method if your TV shows the receiver’s menu. It is easier than the button combination and gives you a chance to back out.
Warning: choosing Reset erases all of your settings.
- Turn on your TV and switch it to the HDMI input the receiver is connected to.
- Press SETUP on the remote. The menu appears on your TV.
- Use the up and down arrows to select General, then press ENTER.
- Select Reset, then press ENTER.
- Read the prompt on the TV and confirm the reset.
Denon’s manual describes this item only as “All settings are reset to the factory default values.” It doesn’t show the confirmation screen, so read what your TV displays before you confirm. To leave the menu without resetting, press BACK or press SETUP again.
Which method should you use?
| Your situation | Best method |
|---|---|
| The menu shows on your TV and the remote works | Menu (SETUP > General > Reset) |
| No picture on the TV, or the menu won’t appear | Front-panel buttons |
| The remote is lost or dead | Front-panel buttons |
| You’re selling or giving away the receiver | Either one; both erase all settings |
What to set up again after a reset
After a reset, the receiver behaves like it just came out of the box. A few defaults catch people off guard, especially the HDMI ones.
Speakers
Your speaker distances, levels, and crossover return to Denon’s defaults. The quickest fix is the Setup Assistant (it’s at the bottom of the SETUP menu), or you can run Speakers > Auto Setup with the supplied Sound calibration microphone. Our guide on setting up speakers on the S570BT walks through the microphone placement and the manual settings.
Room EQ is also set to Off by default, and you can only turn it on after Auto Setup has been run.
TV sound (ARC and HDMI Control)
This is the setting most likely to “break” after a reset. On the S570BT, both HDMI Control and ARC are Off by default. If your TV has eARC, the receiver turns eARC on by itself. If your TV only has ARC, TV apps will be silent through the receiver until you go to SETUP > Video > HDMI Setup and set ARC to On.
If you want the TV remote to control the receiver’s volume and power, set HDMI Control to On too. For the full walkthrough, see how to connect the S570BT to a TV with eARC or ARC.
Bluetooth
Denon doesn’t say whether a reset clears the Bluetooth pairing list. If your phone won’t reconnect afterward, open your phone’s Bluetooth settings, choose to forget the Denon receiver, and pair it again. Our S570BT Bluetooth pairing steps cover the pairing code and the 8-device limit.
Other defaults worth checking
- Input Assign: OPTICAL1 goes back to TV Audio, OPTICAL2 to AUX, and COAXIAL to CBL/SAT.
- Volume Limit: back to Off, so there is no maximum volume cap.
- Auto Standby: back to Off, so the receiver won’t shut itself off when idle.
- ECO Mode: back to Auto.
If the reset doesn’t work or doesn’t fix the problem
The display never flashes
Make sure the receiver was off (standby) before you started, and that you used the front-panel buttons rather than the remote. Hold SOUND MODE ▶ and TUNER PRESET CH + first, then press power. Pressing all three at the exact same moment is harder to get right.
The power light flashes red and the receiver shuts off
A reset won’t fix this, because it isn’t a settings problem. Denon says the pattern tells you what’s wrong:
- Red flash about every 2 seconds: the protection circuit turned on because the receiver got too hot. Turn it off, let it cool for about an hour, and move it somewhere with better airflow.
- Red flash about every 0.5 seconds: speaker wires may be touching each other, or a stray strand is touching the back panel. Unplug the receiver, fix the wiring, turn the volume down, and power on again. If it keeps happening, Denon says the amplifier circuit has failed and you should contact Denon service.
You still have no sound after the reset
Most “no sound” cases come down to the input, an HDMI setting, or a speaker wire, not a corrupted setting. Work through our S570BT no-sound checklist before trying a second reset.
You can read Denon’s own instructions on the Resetting factory settings page of the AVR-S570BT online manual.
