To pair a phone with the Denon AVR-S570BT, press the Bluetooth button on the remote, open Bluetooth on your phone, select the Denon receiver, check that the number on the phone matches the number on the receiver’s display, and choose Pair. The very first time, the receiver goes into pairing mode on its own. For a second or third device, hold the Bluetooth button on the remote for at least 3 seconds to start pairing mode again.
The S570BT has Bluetooth but no Wi-Fi, so Bluetooth is its only wireless way to play music from a phone, tablet, or computer. It can remember up to 8 devices. The steps below cover the first pairing, adding more devices, switching between them, and fixing a connection that won’t work.
Pair your first Bluetooth device
Turn on the receiver and keep your phone within about 3 feet (1 meter) of it while you pair. You can move farther away once it’s connected.
- Press the Bluetooth button on the remote. The receiver switches to the Bluetooth input.
- Check the receiver’s front display. On first use it goes into pairing mode by itself and shows Pairing…
- On your phone, open the Bluetooth settings and turn Bluetooth on.
- Wait for the Denon receiver to appear in the list of nearby devices, then tap it.
- Compare the number on your phone with the number on the receiver’s display. If they match, tap Pair on your phone. If the receiver also asks you to confirm, select Pair there too.
- If your phone asks for a password or PIN, enter 0000.
- Look at the receiver’s display. When pairing is done, it shows your phone’s name.
- Open any music app on your phone and press play.
Once a device is paired, you don’t need to pair it again. The next time you choose the Bluetooth input, the receiver automatically reconnects to the last device it was connected to.
Pair a second phone, tablet, or computer
Denon only promises automatic pairing mode the first time you use Bluetooth. After that, start pairing mode yourself before you add a new device. There are two ways to do that.

Option A: hold the Bluetooth button (fastest)
- Press and hold Bluetooth on the remote for at least 3 seconds. The receiver goes into pairing mode.
- On the new device, open Bluetooth settings and select the Denon receiver.
- Confirm the matching number and choose Pair.
- Wait for the new device’s name to appear on the receiver’s display.
Option B: use the option menu on your TV
- Press Bluetooth on the remote so the input is set to Bluetooth.
- Press OPTION. The option menu appears on your TV.
- Use the up and down arrows to select Pairing Mode, then press ENTER.
- Finish pairing on the new device the same way as above.
Option B needs the TV on and set to the receiver’s HDMI input. Option A works with the TV off, since you only need the receiver’s front display.
The 8-device limit
The S570BT stores up to 8 paired devices. When you pair a 9th, it replaces the oldest one on the list. If an old tablet suddenly won’t connect, that’s often why. Just pair it again.
Switch between paired devices
Only one device plays at a time. To hand off from one phone to another:
- On the phone that’s connected now, turn Bluetooth off (or disconnect from the Denon receiver).
- On the phone you want to use, turn Bluetooth on.
- Select the Denon receiver in that phone’s Bluetooth list.
- Start playing music from any app.
You don’t need to touch the receiver for this. The handoff happens entirely on the phones.
Control playback with the Denon remote
If your device supports the AVRCP Bluetooth profile (most phones do), you can use the receiver’s remote instead of picking up your phone.
| Remote button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Play/Pause | Plays or pauses |
| Skip back / Skip forward | Previous or next track |
| Skip button, held down | Rewinds or fast-forwards |
| ENTER | Plays or pauses |
| ENTER, held down | Stops playback |
| Left / right arrows | Previous or next track (hold to rewind or fast-forward) |
Let your phone turn the receiver on
Two settings under SETUP > General > Bluetooth control what happens when a paired phone connects. Both are On out of the box.
- Bluetooth Standby: when On, a paired device can connect while the receiver is in standby, and the receiver powers on by itself.
- Auto-Select: when On, the receiver switches to the Bluetooth input as soon as a device connects.
With both on, you can walk in, tap the receiver in your phone’s Bluetooth list, and hear music without touching the remote.
There are trade-offs. With Bluetooth Standby on, the power light glows red in standby, and Denon rates standby power at about 1 watt instead of 0.1 watt. And if Auto-Select is on, a phone that reconnects on its own as you walk past can pull the receiver away from your TV in the middle of a show. If that happens, set Auto-Select to Off. You’ll then pick the Bluetooth input yourself.
Use the Denon 500 Series Remote app
Denon’s free “Denon 500 Series Remote” app (App Store, Google Play, and Amazon Appstore) turns your phone into a basic remote. It can turn the receiver on and off, change the volume, mute, and choose the input.
The app talks to the receiver over Bluetooth, so pair your phone first using the steps above. Denon also notes that Bluetooth Standby must be On for the app to work, which makes sense if you want to power the receiver on from your phone.

Can you use Bluetooth headphones with the S570BT?
Not according to Denon’s manual. The S570BT’s Bluetooth menu has only two settings, Bluetooth Standby and Auto-Select, and the manual only covers receiving music from a device. It doesn’t describe any way to send sound out to Bluetooth headphones or speakers. For private listening, plug wired headphones into the PHONES jack on the front. Keep in mind the speakers go silent while headphones are plugged in.
When Bluetooth won’t connect or keeps cutting out
Your phone can’t find or connect to the receiver
- Put the receiver in pairing mode. For any device after the first, hold the Bluetooth button for 3 seconds (or use OPTION > Pairing Mode). A receiver that isn’t in pairing mode won’t show up for new devices.
- Move closer. Pair within about 3 feet (1 meter).
- Restart your phone’s Bluetooth. Denon’s fix is to turn the device off and on again, then retry.
- Check compatibility. The device must support the A2DP profile. Nearly all phones, tablets, and computers do, but some older or specialized devices may not.
- Forget and re-pair. If it used to work, delete the Denon receiver from your phone’s Bluetooth list and pair from scratch. This also fixes a device that fell off the 8-device list.
It’s connected, but you hear nothing
Make sure the receiver is on the Bluetooth input and the volume on both the receiver and the phone is turned up. If headphones are plugged into the PHONES jack, unplug them. If you’ve ruled those out, our S570BT no-sound troubleshooting guide covers mute, speaker wiring, and sound mode checks.
The sound drops out
- Bring the device closer to the receiver.
- Remove anything between them, like a cabinet door.
- Move the receiver away from microwave ovens, Wi-Fi routers, and other Bluetooth gear. Denon lists these as sources of interference.
- Disconnect and reconnect the device.
Still stuck
If nothing pairs at all, even a different phone, a factory reset clears every setting and gives you a clean start. Our S570BT reset guide explains both reset methods and what to set up again afterward.
If you want TV sound through your speakers, Bluetooth isn’t the way to go on this receiver. Use HDMI instead, as shown in our guide to connecting the S570BT to your TV with eARC or ARC.
Denon’s own steps are on the Pairing with other Bluetooth devices page of the online manual.
